Filming took place from October to December 2011 for a scheduled release date of September 14, 2012.The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D, as well as 2D.
Plot of Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
Following where the previous film left off, Alice (Milla Jovovich) and the others on Umbrella Corporation's Arcadia freighter are being attacked by Jill Valentine's (Sienna Guillory) fleet of airships. Alice shoots one down and it crashes on to the ship, knocking her in to the water, unconscious.
Taking place in what seems to be an alternate reality, Alice is living as a suburban housewife with her husband Carlos (Oded Fehr) and deaf daughter Becky (Aryana Engineer). The three are living a calm life, until a zombie outbreak occurs in the neighbourhood, killing Carlos. Alice and Becky escape in to the street and get in the car of Rain Ocampo (Michelle Rodriguez), who is another suburban woman and a stranger to Alice (dubbed "Good Rain"). As the three drive to escape the panic, the car is hit by a truck and crashes. Alice and Becky escape but leave an unconscious Rain in the car. Alice then runs in to Carlos, now a zombie, who attacks her.
Suddenly, the real Alice awakens in Umbrella custody after being captured in the fight on Arcadia. She is interrogated by Jill who is being mind-controlled by Umbrella via the red scarab device attached to her chest. Jill demands to know who Alice is working for but she doesn't comply, instead trying to make Jill remember who she really is. The power unexpectedly goes out in the facility and will be automatically switched back on in two minutes. Alice is able to escape out of her holding cell to a hallway by the time the power comes back on. Jill orders for a laser grid to chase Alice down the end of the hallway and through a door, which leads to the Toyko city landscape, identical to the beginning of the opening scene where the T-virus broke out in Japan. Alice is forced to fight the horde of zombies, including the patient zero (Mika Nakashima), before fleeing through a door which takes her back inside Umbrella headquarters.
Finding many Umbrella operatives dead inside, Alice meets Ada Wong (Li Bingbing), who she recognized as Albert Wesker's (Shawn Roberts) associate. Wesker appears on the screens inside, having survived the events of the previous film. Ada reveals to Alice that she killed all the Umbrella employees inside and that she and Wesker no longer work for Umbrella. Wesker needs Alice for a broader purpose to save what's left of mankind, and was the one who shut off the power, allowing her to escape captivity. Ada explains that they are in the Umbrella facility in Moscow, which is located underwater under thick ice. The facility serves as a testing ground for new experiments before the inventions are sold to other countries. Many cities are replicated in large arenas, populated by clones that Umbrella continues to manufacture, each imprinted with memories, enough to elicit an emotional response when T-virus simulation occurs. Wesker also reveals that the Red Queen (Megan Charpentier and Ave Merson-O'Brian) has taken over the Umbrella facility and has given Jill the order to capture Alice, or kill her if necessary. Additionally, Wesker has organised a team of five freelance operatives to infiltrate the facility and help Alice and Ada escape, including Leon S. Kennedy (Johann Urb), Barry Burton (Kevin Durand), and Luther West (Boris Kodjoe).
